Heard is built on trust. This policy explains what information we collect and how we use it.
Information We Collect
Entries
When you contribute an entry, we store:
- The text of your entry
- The location cell identifier (a coarse geographic area, not your precise coordinates)
- A timestamp
- An internal user identifier (not linked to any public profile)
Entries are stored anonymously. There are no public profiles, display names, or identities associated with your contributions.
Location Data
Heard uses your location to anchor entries to physical places. Location is stored at snapped cell resolution (approximately 13-meter hexagonal areas), not as precise coordinate history. We do not track your movements or store location history.
Authentication Data
We use anonymous authentication. No email address, name, or personal information is required to use Heard.
Analytics Data
We collect anonymous usage data to understand how the app is used and to improve it. This includes:
- Feature usage events (e.g. contributing an entry)
- App version
- Device type and diagnostics (crash logs)
Analytics data is not linked to your identity or your entries.
What We Do Not Collect
- Names, email addresses, or public profiles
- Voice recordings or biometric data
- Advertising identifiers
- Precise location history
Third-Party Services
Supabase
We use Supabase for authentication, data storage, and backend services. Supabase’s infrastructure is hosted on AWS. See Supabase’s Privacy Policy for details.
Data Stewardship
Heard is non-extractive by design. We do not:
- Sell or license user-generated content
- Use entries in promotional materials
- Train external models on entry content
- Surface entries in aggregate, feeds, or trending lists
- Display advertising
Your entries are a reciprocal exchange, not a content asset.
Data Sharing
We do not:
- Sell your data
- Share personal data with third parties (beyond what’s needed to operate the service)
- Display advertising
Entries are only ever visible to:
- The person who contributed immediately before you (they see your entry)
- The person who contributes immediately after you (you see their entry)
No one else can access your entry.
Content Moderation
Entries are subject to automated content moderation to maintain a safe environment. Entries that violate content policy may be blocked at submission or removed. Repeat violations may result in a ban.
Your Rights
You can:
- Stop using the app at any time
- Request deletion of your data by contacting us
- Your data will be removed when your account is deleted
