What it does

  • Clear verdicts — turns weather into a simple water / check soil / skip assessment for each yard area
  • Manual watering tracking — tap “I Watered” and log light, normal, or deep soak sessions so the app knows what you’ve already done
  • Area-type awareness — lawns, raised beds, containers, new plantings, compost, and more — each with their own moisture needs
  • Establishment sensitivity — newly seeded, sodded, or planted areas get more protective watering recommendations until they’re established
  • Exposure level — full sun, shaded, and covered areas each affect how much rain lands and how fast things dry
  • Cold-weather dormancy — suppresses watering recommendations below 55°F to prevent fungal issues and respect plant dormancy
  • 7-day outlook and recovery forecast — plan your watering week and see when areas might dry out or need attention
  • Zone naming — organise areas by location (front yard, back yard, patio, porch) or custom names
  • Apple Watch companion — check your yard from your wrist without pulling out your phone
  • Home screen widgets — glanceable verdicts that update throughout the day (Pro)

Area types

Yardwise tailors its recommendations to how each part of your yard holds and loses moisture:

  • Lawn — established grass with moderate drying and solid drought tolerance
  • In-ground bed — native or amended soil, with optional mulch that slows evaporation
  • Raised bed — amended soil that holds moisture longer than ground-level beds
  • Container — potting mix that drains fast and dries out quickly — often the first area that needs water
  • Tree / shrub — deep watering zones for new plantings that need consistent moisture to establish
  • Compost — active piles with internal heat and moderate drying characteristics

How it works

Under the hood, Yardwise runs the Groundwise Recovery Meridian — the same decision engine used by Ridewise and Fieldwise, flipped to answer “is it too dry?” instead of “is it too wet?” It combines recent rainfall, your manual watering history, temperature, wind, humidity, and cloud cover into a moisture picture for each area. Cold-weather dormancy, establishment state, and exposure level all factor in. Tap “How We Do It” in the app for the full deep-dive.

Built for casual gardeners

Yardwise is designed for people who want a nice yard without becoming hobbyist agronomists. No soil sensors, no irrigation controllers — just calm, actionable guidance based on what the weather has been doing. No subscriptions, no accounts. All data stays on your device.

Part of the Groundwise family

Yardwise joins Ridewise and Fieldwise in the Groundwise trilogy — the same trusted weather engine, each tuned to answer a different outdoor question.
