Sojourn is committed to protecting your privacy. This policy explains what information we collect and how we use it.
Information We Collect
Account Data
When you sign in with Apple, we store:
- Your Apple ID token (for authentication)
- Your display name (if provided by Apple)
- Your email address (may be an Apple relay address)
You can use Sojourn without signing in. Anonymous sessions are created automatically and do not require any personal information.
Story Data
Your reading progress, choices, and listener profile preferences are stored on our servers (hosted by Supabase) so they can sync across your devices. This data is private to your account and is not shared with anyone.
Generated Content
Story sessions are generated in real-time using AI (Claude by Anthropic). The prompts sent to the AI include your story context and listener preferences but do not include your name, email, or any personally identifying information.
Local Data
App preferences and reading progress are stored locally on your device using standard iOS storage.
Push Notifications (optional)
If you grant notification permission, we register your device with Apple Push Notification service (APNs) to deliver bedtime reminders and story-related alerts. The device token is stored on our servers, associated with your account if signed in. You can revoke notification permission at any time from your device settings.
Subscription Data
If you subscribe, we record your subscription status so we can unlock content. Purchase processing is handled by Apple’s App Store — we never see or store your payment method details. See Apple’s Privacy Policy for details on how they handle payment data.
Analytics Data
We use Mixpanel to collect anonymous app usage data. This helps us understand which features are used and how to improve the app. Analytics data includes:
- Sign-in and account events (sign-in completion, sign-out, account deletion)
- Subscription and paywall events (paywall views, subscription purchases, restores)
- Push notification events (permission grant, token registration, notification tap-through)
- App lifecycle (app open, app background)
- Reading-session events (reading start and completion, choice made, listener profile completion) — content metadata only; no story text or generated content is included
Analytics data is associated with an anonymous identifier and the following non-identifying user attributes: app name, app version, family (Sojourn’s product family), platform (iOS), and whether you have an active subscription.
Analytics data does not include:
- Your name, email address, or Apple ID
- The text of your story choices or any generated story content
- Your physical location
We do not use advertising identifiers (IDFA) or track you across apps. Analytics data is retained for 12 months.

Third-Party Services
Supabase
We use Supabase for authentication, data storage, and serverless functions. Supabase’s infrastructure is hosted on AWS. See Supabase’s Privacy Policy for details.
Anthropic (Claude)
We use Anthropic’s Claude API to generate story content. Story context is sent to Anthropic’s servers for generation. No personally identifying information is included in these requests. See Anthropic’s Privacy Policy for details.
OpenAI (Narrator Audio)
When you enable narrator audio, we use OpenAI’s text-to-speech API to synthesize the spoken performance server-side. The story text is sent to OpenAI for audio generation, then returned to the app as an MP3. No personally identifying information is included in these requests. RevenueCat (Subscription Management)
We use RevenueCat to manage the subscription lifecycle. RevenueCat receives your Apple App Store transaction details to track entitlements across devices, and is associated with an anonymous identifier or, if you sign in, your account ID. See RevenueCat’s Privacy Policy.
Mixpanel (Analytics)
We use Mixpanel to collect feature usage data as described above. No personal information is shared with Mixpanel.
Apple Push Notification service
Push notifications are delivered through Apple’s APNs. Device tokens are technical identifiers used solely for delivering notifications; they are not used for advertising or cross-app tracking.
Data Sharing
We do not:
- Sell your data
- Share personal data with third parties beyond what’s needed to operate the service
- Display advertising
- Track you across apps or websites
Your Rights
You can:
- Use the app anonymously without providing any personal information
- Sign in with Apple to sync progress across devices
- Delete your account and all associated data at any time from the Account screen
- Your data will be permanently removed when your account is deleted
- Export or request a copy of any personal data we hold by emailing the contact below
If you are in the EU, UK, or California (and other jurisdictions with similar laws), you have additional rights under the General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR), UK GDPR, and California Consumer Privacy Act (CCPA) — including the right to access, correct, port, restrict, or object to our processing of your personal data, and the right to withdraw consent at any time. Children’s Privacy
Sojourn is not directed at children under 13. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children.
